University of Tsukuba 筑波大学

  • Ibaraki, Japan 茨城県

Tsukuba University has many undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs taught in English, and a particular level of Japanese ability is not required for admission; so it may be a great fit for you if you are interested in studying Japanese but are not proficient yet. (If you can prove your level of Japanese proficiency, you can also take courses taught in Japanese). Ibaraki Prefecture, where Tsukuba University is located, is an area where students can truly experience Japanese rural life; and also be just 1 hour by train from central Tokyo if they feel like spending a day in a metropolitan environment. The city of Tsukuba is known for its focus on science and technology (especially the fields of robotics and nanotech). Over 200 private research organizations and about 60 public research organizations are located in Tsukuba city. Also, Tsukuba University also has excellent athletic departments, which have produced over 60 Olympic athletes since 1973!
